About Us
The Mission of the Florida Hospital Center for Thrombosis Research is to provide high quality clinical laboratory testing for the patients and physicians of Florida Hospital and beyond; and to undertake research that is clinically focused, ethically appropriate and fiscally responsible.
The Florida Hospital Center for Thrombosis Research was founded in 1994 by Dr. John Francis. Since that time, the Center has grown significantly, and now not only houses a productive research program, but also boasts one of the busiest specialist laboratories for blood coagulation testing in the United States.
At the Center for Thrombosis Research, medical technologists provide technical support to the Ph.D. research staff, as well as undertake their own research projects. Educational seminars, Journal Clubs and other educational activities are participated in by clinical and research staff alike. The juxtaposition of research and clinical laboratories in this way is rare even in academic medical centers, and is probably unique in a community hospital environment. Nevertheless, it is the key to our success, which has been manifested by the publication of more than 60 papers in the medical literature, and the presentation of our research at scientific conferences on over 230 occasions.
Although the Center conducts basic, clinical and contract research, our research programs are largely highly translational in nature. That is to say that every research project that is initiated by our staff must have a clear and tangible benefit to patients at Florida Hospital and beyond.
